Image: Rio Grande Border Fence, 2025 oil, acrylic and pastel on canvas 36 x 48"
This painting is from the artist's Mexican Border series, inspired by a border photo near Ciudad Juarez posted in the New York Times by Alejandro Cegarra. This painting is dedicated to the people in fear of ICE in Los Angeles, Texas, and elsewhere. The flower and color palettes are from huipil designs by indigenous Oaxacan matriarchal people – Frida Kahlo was known to wear and collect these textiles.

Excited to be showing one of my favorite paintings, Del Rey Grapevines, along with my students' work from my artist in residence at Guadalupe Elementary in the Excelsior in San Francisco up through the end of March.

My painting, Alligator Alcatraz, at Church of the Nativity in Raleigh on Ray Road during Lent. Proud to be included with @ilaac_nc - each piece accompanies a station of the cross. Praying for the immigrants held in this cruel facility in the Florida Everglades. “Thirty-two bodies crammed per cage, six cages per tent. People screaming ‘Help me, I’m a U.S. citizen.’ Drinking water pumped from the same toilet they’re forced to use. It’s filth, it’s cruelty, it’s America’s name on the door.” - Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost
