Le Grand Voyage 8, 2024 oil acrylic and pastel on canvas 16 x 20” Based on a movie I saw on the plane coming back from Morocco this summer about a truck driver who has adventures traveling through all the cities I visited. I started these paintings this summer, but just finished them today. The colors are based on the traditional dress of an Amazigh (Berber) dancer in the Atlas Mountains.

I started these paintings this summer, but just finished them today. The colors are based on the traditional dress of an Amazigh (Berber) dancer in the Atlas Mountains.

Jardin Majorelle, 2023 Oil, acrylic and pastel on canvas 48 x 48” This is based on a beautiful garden I visited in Marrakesh. Most of the cacti and one palm are Mexican but I included a date palm - the cornerstone of civilization in the Middle East and North Africa, a Cardón Grande from Argentina, and Bougainvillea, native to South America. This garden was bought and rehabbed by Yves Saint Laurent, including a Cubist villa painted the rich blue of Frida Kahlo’s house or the signature color of artist Yves Klein. Sold to a dear friend with an amazing art collection from around the world.

The film ends with him having lost his cargo of dates and his truck in helping people along his route so he rows a boat to Spain.
