Lowriders - Karen Rose

These are digital and 35mm photos as well as paintings based on these photos I took at De Young Museum Lowrider Culture Celebration and screening of the Ladies of the Lowriders films. I also shot the 2026 King of the Streets Lowrider Parade on Mission Street. I have been making these in counterpoint to my immigration detention center paintings because cultural celebration and joy are also a form of resistance.
